Reindeer Feria

There was an event called Reindeer Feria (Poro Feria in Finnish) downtown this afternoon. It starts at 12.30pm and ends at 9.30pm. We met Jukka-Pekka on the bus and headed downtown together. There were many other exchange students there also.

There were many of such tents in the outdoor market place. Some of the things on sale were trinkets, souveniers, drinks, snacks, reindeer fur etc.. Sort of like a pasar malam, just increase the prices many fold.

It's a bar!

Actually it's a stall selling some food and drinks la.. There are some seats and tables at the corner also.

Stage at the market

There were some performances held on the stage. Some pop and rock, traditional performances etc. They were interesting to look at for about 5 minutes. Then we had to escape the bitter cold by heading for the indoor market. (There was alot of snow today!!)

While waiting for the reindeer competition to start, we went to Stockmann for some shopping. It's sort of a shopping mall, but you don't see individual shops. The whole building seems to be operated by themselves only. We spent the most time at level 1, where all the food was located at. I saw the largest chilli I ever saw in my life.

That's how big they are

They are probably not chillis.. Maybe some sort of peppers or something. And I bet they are not spicy. Didn't buy them. There was a guy giving out samples of food. The salmon was salty and good. Great..

Reindeers!

I didn't know they can move so quickly! It was not as exciting as I had expected it to be, so there was no way I would stay there for an hour watching this.

Helios made this, and it was to be brought to the international dinner party last night, but it did not come out the way she expected, so she did not bring it. But I got to try it last night when I went over to deliver my tarts. They were absolutely refreshing and light. I liked it as it was, but she kept insisting they were not supposed to be like that. Haha, just give me the whole tray and I will finish it for you...

Li Kang just arrived in the hostel today, and I helped Jukka-Pekka brief him on some things. And I offered him my internet connection for him to use skype to call back. I know it must have made him happy. Because I was desperate to call home when I first arrived. And I gave him some toast too. The supermarkets were closed by now. Hopefully he will be able to get some food tomorrow if he goes downtown to catch day 2 of the Poro Feria...

My baked potatoes were still not a success. The instrcutions called for them to be baked for approx an hour, and I left them inside for almost 2 hours! I should increase the temperature and duration the next time. But the potatoes were still edible and soft. :)
